Pastor's pen

Thinking back on when I first met my wife to be. I was first intrigued by her then I wanted to know more so I started talking to her and asking questions. Then it seemed that I wanted to spend more and more time with her. Going off to college separated us for a while and we wrote letters. I couldn't wait for the next letter or for the weekend when I traveled back to see her. You guessed it, I was in love...

When we give our life to Jesus, we should want to know more and more about Him. We should long be with Him and be in His presence. The way we get to know Him better is to read His word but very few Christians want to read let alone study the bible.  In John 14:15 Jesus says that "If you Love Me keep My commandments "How do we know what the commandments are?" By reading the bible.

Psalm 119 is a good place to begin; It tells us that blessed (happy) are those who walk in the law of the Lord, who seek Him with their whole heart. Verse 81 says "My soul longs for Your salvation; I hope in Your word".  Psalm 138:2 states "For You have exalted above all things Your name and Your word."  So just how important is the word of God?
Read Matthew 24:35 and you begin to get the idea.

I remember well the question posed to me several years ago. I was preaching on a Sunday evening at a church. I don't remember my text but when I was finished an elderly lady approached me and asked "Randy, when did they put that in the bible, I have never heard that before?"  My only response was, "About 2000 years ago"

Many people want to serve God and do good but haven't a clue as to what it is He wants from us. As the apostle Paul states in Romans 10:2 "They have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge".  In Deuteronomy 6:4-7 we are commanded to love God with all our heart.

When I was away from Rhonda at college, I couldn't wait to read her letters. The Bible is God's love letter to us. we should not only want to read it, but approach it with excitement, and know it is going to be good. So read the bible, it's good for your soul!
